Alan Young is a current MSW student at Arizona State University. He is a certified Substance Abuse Counselor with over six years of experience and 12 years of sobriety. He has worked with adolescents as well as adults and has experience working with veterans, former inmates, families, and individuals with eating disorders. His experience includes one-on-one counseling, group therapy, family therapy, and bio-sound therapy. The prospect of working in macro-social work drew him to the NASW and he hopes to expand his understanding of what role social work can play in society. Prior to his work in mental health, he was a screenwriter and playwright for various acting groups in downtown Los Angeles. When he is not busy working on his masters, he is either working on writing a novel or watching cartoons with his toddler.
