The Mental Health and Mathematics Institute of Los Angeles (MHMILA) is a startup 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing quantitative methods in psychology, social work, and the mental health clinic, providing free or low cost services to underserved communities in Los Angeles, and to supporting our next generation of researchers and professionals who wish to pursue the development of quantitative methods.
We believe that social workers can help lead the movement for evidence-based practices in the mental health world. Although many scholars and practitioners support EBTs in the form of empirically validated interventions, much more potential exists for their development and use in other dimensions of service provision, such as in evidence-based assessment (EBA) practices. Linking the research world, the mathematical community, and our population of clinicians in one setting is the best way to accomplish this.
The MHMILA is fighting to make this a reality. Currently, the MHMILA is raising funds in order to establish a social work lead mental health clinic in Los Angeles. Our fundraiser can be viewed at www.generosity.com and the name of our campaign is “Build a Clinic, Advance a Profession,” which can also be access by clicking this link: https://www.generosity.com/medical-fundraising/build-a-mental-health-clinic-advance-a-profession
If you are interested in becoming involved, opening up a discourse, or inquiring further about our mission and objectives, please feel free to contact Shane Guglielmo at shane@mhmila.org. We are also looking for passionate social workers to join our board of directors.
