Is it the newly elected
That screams in our faces
A message of evil demise
Or the peoples choice.
The majority
Resting on laurels
Of fast food and illusions of specialness.
Is it the newly elected
That engenders social inequality
Or the unfulfilled palates
Of a dying America
Disillusioned with the
Haves and the Have nots.
Is it the newly elected
Pitting women against women
Through the great divide
Of the old rape adage
“what was she wearing” and
“what’s her sexual history”.
Is it the newly elected
Who promises to obliterate
The “trespassers”
No longer welcome to the melting pot
Of opportunities gone awry.
And remnants of exotic spices
Now a sea of abysmal stench
Where is the American Parade
School bands and war heroes
Marching in celebratory rhythm
And the galloping hooves
Of our great American past-
The apple pie
And “small town kid, does good”
The endless possibilities, now impossible.
Is there a refuge for millennia’s
Beyond tiny houses
And minimum wage jobs
Where competition for scarce resources
Doesn’t settle into never leaving home
And fulfilling Chairman Mau dreams
Of numbing us on electronics and pharmaceuticals.
Has America succumbed again/still
To bullies and slave owners
Supremacists and other separatists
Religious outrage at LGBTP.
Disposing of the mentally and physically indigent
Down a sieve, into quick sand
Out of sight
Out of mind
Out of touch
Out of kind.
Is the newly elected
The perpetrator
The resounding clang
Of the gavel of new justice
Sneering at the impassioned
With an ensnaring flashlight
Arm banding “bleeding heart” intellectuals.
Where runners run fast and far
While the blind folded masses
Single file complacently into shallow, mass graves
Too broken and vulnerable to live free.
Is the newly elected
Going to change the world
With a time machine back
To pre PTSD amygdala trauma
Or will humanity unite
Leaving dichotomy in the dust
With courageous, exemplary voices
of compassion and reason resonating
the solfeggio frequencies of DNA healing.
