Thank You for a Successful Annual Conference!

Thank you to everyone who attended NASW-CA’s Social Work Conference! We were thrilled to have hundreds of social workers, social service leaders, and advocates gather to learn from our featured speakers, and from each other over the course of two days. The NASW-CA team works hard to ensure that our Annual Conference is the learning space for social work professionals throughout California and beyond.

This event could not have been a success without your continued support and commitment to our field and to your own professional development. Thank you for sharing space with us as we continue to expand our knowledge, skills, and curiosity. We can’t wait to see you again in 2023!

Here is a snapshot of Day 1!

Day 1 Keynote Speaker, Kane Smego, Spoken Word Poet. His performance highlights the role our identities and experiences play in developing leadership, building collaborative relationships, and designing creative ways to engage our communities.
Breakout session: Self-Help Case Management Using an ABCD Framework. To help the City of Azusa streamline access to relevant resources, Dr. Lee and Toni Gott share their online resource guide they created.

Breakout session: Medicare and Medi-Cal Pathways for Long Term Care Rebalancing in California. Jason Bloome breaks down what Medicare and Medi-Cal tools are available for, and how to access them.  
Breakout session: Working Together – Improving Collaborative Practice by Examining Internal Bias and Centristic Beliefs. Delyn Fraley, DSW, LCSW explores collaborative practice, individual professional identity, internal biases, and professional centrism. 
Panel presentation: Social Workers Advocate! Panel Presentation by NASW-CA Staff and Community Partners. NASW-CA staff and partners share about their advocacy efforts, collaborations with the CA Chapter, and how to get involved.

Day two Keynote Speaker, Christina Broderick, LSW – 3 Steps to Elevate and Expand in Social Work. She shared tips participants can use to elevate their social work practice, push past the standard narrative and approach to career development, and have a lasting impact on their communities. 
NASW-CA Social Work Awards Ceremony. Jeffrey Stabile was awarded Community Member of the Year. 
 NASW-CA Social Work Awards Ceremony. Chinese for Affirmative Action was awarded Organization of the Year. 
NASW-CA Social Work Awards Ceremony. Debra Waters-Roman, Ed.D, MSW, LCSW, LCP was awarded Social Worker of the Year. 
NASW-CA Social Work Awards Ceremony. Stacie Hiramoto, MSW was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award. 
Breakout session: African American Reparations in California: An Update and Discussion. Mitchell T. Maki, PH.D. and Donald K. Tamaki discuss the California Reparations Task Force‘s current status in reparations to Black individuals. 
Breakout session: Lessons from the Ancestors: Culture, Social Work and Community Based Practice. Rita Ledesma, PhD, LCSW and Alejandra Acuña, PhD, LCSW discuss culturally informed strategies in training social workers for community-based practice. 

We hope to see you next year, and look forward to sharing what’s in store for NASW-CA’s Annual Conference in 2023! We welcome you next year for another Conference filled with interactive programming, networking, and celebrating our peers and colleagues.
