The San Luis Obispo Unit’s next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, February 25th.
This will be a 1 CEU presentation by Heidi Metz Mikel, LCSW, entitled “What is DBT?”
Areas to be discussed are: what does mindfulness in DBT mean; what is a dialectic; what are the four problems addressed by DBT; how is DBT delivered; what is a diary card and how it is used.
Ms. Mikel has been employed at Atascadero State Hospital since 2008, first working with acutely mentally ill prisoners referred to ASH and with Mentally Disordered Offenders, and currently as an admission social worker. She has practiced both DBT and Motivational Interviewing at ASH, is a preceptor to Social Work Interns, and as a BBS Supervisor. Prior to her ASH career, Ms. Mikel worked in South Central Los Angeles with adolescents and women with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders through individual, group, and family therapy. She obtained her Masters in Social Work at Hunter College in New York City in 1999 and her CASAC [Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor] in 2004.
