San Luis Obispo Unit Report
At the San Luis Obispo unit’s March meeting we celebrated Social Work Month and the 40th Anniversary of the California Chapter. The two photos above are of Shirley Summers, LCSW, 2014 SLO unit Social Worker of the Year with Mary Ellen Rico, and a group photo of past SLO unit Social Workers of the Year with Shirley Summers. They are Dominick Lacovera, Grenda Ernst, Lori Hunstad, Shirley Summers, Elvera Hornung and Nancy Green. You can see how much fun we all had that evening.
On Thursday, May 22, 2014, Kris Kington-Barker, executive director, and Tony Huffaker, MFT, director of Counseling, from the Hospice of San Luis County will present a 1-hour CEU program on the services they provide and their “Community Response Program.” The core mission of Hospice of SLO County is to support the community in coping with loss and promoting healing by offering free counseling, community education and volunteer support to those grieving a death or dealing with potential end of life issues. The Community Response Program includes reaching out to companies and organizations that desire to assist their workforce in coping with catastrophic illness or the death of colleagues and the ever growing need for in-home respite care. |
Our unit meets from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, beginning with social networking, refreshments and a brief business meeting followed by the program. Please contact Ly-Lan Lofgren at lylanmvlofgren@gmail.com for the address and directions if needed.
Please save the date, Thursday, June 26, 2014, for our final meeting before the summer break. We will have a presentation on the San Luis Obispo Family Treatment Court. Our fall programs begin Thursday, September 25, 2014. |
