Christy Crespin, LCSW—who is totally blind— is experienced in working with clients who are legally blind, functionally blind and totally blind.

She has worked in the field of social work with children, families, forensically committed and vocational rehabilitation clients. She and her husband, Ed Crespin, MA, are experts in the field and will present educational aspects of working with people who have low vision to no vision.

Ed Crespin, also legally blind, works with a caseload of clients as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Together, this expert team will provide educational information, facilitate discussion, and offer tips and examples of ways to work and relate with both clients and colleagues who have visual impairments and who function in diverse ways.

The presenters will impart to professionals some blindness history, the White Cane Safety Law (celebrated 10/15), and familiarize colleagues with various conditions of low vision/blindness.

Objectives

  • Attendees will be able to state the purpose and rationale for the White Cane Safety law.
  • Attendees will be able to name types of vision loss and main points of each.
  • Attendees will be able to address differences regarding vision impairment, low vision, and blindness, and will be able to state the definition of legal blindness.
  • Attendees will be able to address various techniques that will help in their practice when working with this population.

Join the Disabilities Council and Red Cross Council for dinner and discussion on Friday evening, October 9, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Houlihan’s in San Francisco.
