Debbie McCart
I am currently a first-year graduate student in the MSW program at Sacramento State University where I received my BSW in May 2014. I am excited about the opportunity to intern with NASW CA. I am excited about the prospect of following the bills from inception to actually getting into Legislation and possibly becoming laws. I am eager to see how the language of the bills change and develop over the next few months before Lobby Days. I feel I am in an excellent position to experience firsthand the Social Worker role in advocacy for social justice through social policy. I am more interested in the macro-level of social work and so this is a great fit for me. I look forward to an exciting internship here at the NASW under the tutelage of Janlee Wong and Rebecca Gonzales.
Rajeshwari Prasad
My name is Rajeshwari Prasad. I am currently a second-year graduate student of social work at USC and intern at NASW-CA. Before this, I attended UC-Davis, where I graduated with a BS degree in psychology and minor in English.
Social work is an expansive field and I am most interested in its macro-level aspects such as policy development, research, advocacy, community outreach, program planning and evaluation. These interests were developed in 2011, when I began working at Empower Yolo as a victim advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Some of my other interests include public health and education. I have been volunteering for Kaiser Permanente’s hospice program since 2009, where I provide support to terminally ill individuals and respite to their family members. I have also worked with middle and high school students who are enrolled in the Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program as well.
After graduation, I hope to continue fostering my passion for women’s issues, reducing health disparities in marginalized communities and promoting quality education in the K-12 public school system.
