It’s a New Year and a New Council
By Ruby Guillen, MSW, CIS, Co-Chair of Technology Council
Technology has permeated our lives — involving both the personal and professional. The NASW-CA Technology Council has been created to build a collaborative process amongst members. We want our members to get the most out of their technology usage, thereby strengthening our profession!
We will examine technology issues impacting our work in micro/macro areas: How can I use technology to enhance my productivity? What are the “challenges” of using social media? How can I become more confident and skilled in technology? What technology tools are being used to capture data to create “in-house” analytics and statistical outcomes to gauge the effectiveness of social service delivery?
As this council collects the usage of tech among our members, it will be shared. We will continue to update while archiving information to enable one to access this easily. We will post information and latest technology issues in this periodical and our Facebook page.
We are seeking members that are willing to share their mastery of technology. From this process, we hope that our members learn from their peers how to get the most out of technical resources, including confidentiality, ethical practices, and the federal technological regulatory protocols.
On the NASW California Council page, the Technology Council is asking the membership to participate in our brief survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FPXCQDB) to gauge how to best serve member’s needs and interests. We will be developing workshops and webinars led by technology experts. In addition, we will be posting links to active social media tools and other resources.
We will provide tools to our members that will help them to link in without leaving their office or home. If you want to join us and/or want to learn more about the Technology Council, please contact Co-Chairs, Ruby Guillen at rubyguillen@gmail.com and/or JT Vernon at jthomasvernon@gmail.com.
