With so much information being shared across the internet, it is hard to keep track of everything, so in case you missed it, here are some resources for seniors and families with children. Please reach out to us if you need guidance with anything COVID-19-related at your job site or with your practice at naswca@naswca.org

Seniors

  • Governor Gavin Newsom announced the launch of a first-in-the-nation “Great Plates Delivered” program, a meal delivery service for California’s older adults in SD30 who qualify by delivering three nutritious meals a day.  Have questions contact-  (Dept. of Aging Hotline): 213-263-5226 or greatplates@soc.caloes.ca.gov.
  • Enter your location into 211.org to find local services, such as nutrition, financial, health care and housing assistance. Every community has an Aging and Adult Info Line to connect to aging and adult services: 1-800-510-2020.
  • Do you suspect someone is being neglected or abused? Call Adult Protective Services at 1-877-477-3646 (1-877-4-R-Seniors).
  • Suspect fraud? AARP has a Fraud Watch Network Helpline: 877-908-3360.
  • Concerned about someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s or their caregiver? Call the Alzheimer’s Association: 800-272-3900.

Children and Parents

  • Get help buying groceries with the NEW Pandemic EBT (or P-EBT) card: With schools closed due to COVID-19, children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals can get up to $365 in food benefits. Families with children who receive CalFresh, Medi-Cal, or Foster Care will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May, no need to apply! Families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals AND do not participate in CalFresh, Medi-Cal, or Foster Care can apply starting May 22nd – June 30th at https://ca.p-ebt.org  for more information visit: www.cdss.ca.gov/home/pandemic-ebt.
  • California began allowing online food purchasing with EBT benefits! You may use your EBT card on Amazon and/or Walmart to purchase groceries. Delivery fees cannot be paid for with EBT cards. More retailers to come! Visit for FAQ: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CalFresh/EBTOnline/EBT-Online-FAQ-Sheet-En.pdf
  • On May 10th, households who received CalFresh in the month of April will receive an emergency allotment on their EBT card. If you are a Calfresh recipient, you will not need to take further action. This benefit will be automatically loaded to your EBT account.
  • Are you an essential worker and in need of childcare? There is a new portal to help you find safe, reliable and accessible child care options. The new portal is available at covid19.ca.gov/childcare and enables parents to enter their location and the type of care needed, instantly receiving a list of local center-based and family child care programs. The list of open licensed child care programs will include health and safety information, age of children accepted, capacity, availability, hours and contact information for the program and local Child Care Resource and Referral agency.
