The ICD-1-CM impacts clinical social workers who diagnose and treat mental illness, not only in private practice, but in other settings such as hospitals, outpatient mental health clinics, and primary care. Clinical social workers who do not use the ICD-10-CM beginning October 1, 2015, may be denied reimbursement by payers.
