To increase access and opportunity for Native American social workers to advance in our field, the Native American Council is now accepting applications for the Native American Birdwoman Student Scholarship! NASW-CA will provide up to 10 $1,000 scholarships to Native American undergraduate or graduate social work students in California.
To apply, you must be:
- An NASW member or join NASW
- Enrolled in a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited school of social work in California
- In your senior year with a declared social work major (if applying as an undergraduate student)
- Enrolled or accepted into a MSW program starting in the Fall (if applying as a graduate student)
Previous scholarship recipients are welcome to apply again, with the understanding that applicants with no history of receiving this scholarship will have priority. Application deadline is August 31, 2022.

- NASW Membership number
- Evidence of tribal membership (PNG, JPG, PDF, Word)
- Transcript from a CSWE accredited school of social work (PNG, JPG, PDF, Word)
- Brief biographical essay (no more than 200 words)
- Statement of need or merit (no more than 200 words)
- 2 letters of recommendation
