The Asian Pacific Islander Social Work Council hosted an evening meeting at the NASW California State Conference on October 4, 2013.
During the past 10 years, several emerging Asian communities have been growing in numbers in the San Francisco Bay Area. One such group is the Himalayan communities. The API Social Work Council invited Ms. Dechen Tsering, Director of Sisterhood for Wellness Project at Community Health for Asian Americans in Oakland, California to speak on “Emerging Himalayan Communities in the Bay Area: Strengths and Challenges.”
Tsering gave a well-organized Powerpoint presentation with some very interesting facts and statistics about the various Himalayan communities. The Council hopes to be able to invite her back in the future for a more in-depth presentation.
