Scenes from the CalSWEC Summit

The inaugural CalSWEC Title IV-E Summit took place this year on April 20-21 at the Long Beach Marriott.

Approximately 350 attendees convened to participate in the event entitled, Social Justice in Child Welfare Today: Enhancing Equity for Tomorrow. The program was full of keynote speakers, workshops, and networking that enhanced knowledge of the child welfare field today.

The Summit is a combination of two former events: Title IV-E Student Day and Title IV-E Field Institute. The events were combined to bring a higher attendee base and to cater to both students and partners. Also, the combined event offers more networking opportunities and a new Public Child Welfare Resource Zone for students to begin their job search.

Per the event program, the goals of the summit were:

  1. To enhance equity for diverse communities by supporting skill building for holistic practice, addressing implicit bias, and working with intersectionality
  2. To learn from individuals impacted by the child welfare system and their perspectives on creating change to enhance equity
  3. To support implementation of the California Child Welfare Core Practice Model
