Do No Harm – Trauma Informed, Anti-Oppressive Practices in Social Work (6 CEUs) on March 8, 15, 22

This class is 3-part course that will take place on March 8, March 15, and March 22.  Attendance to all three days is required to receive 6 CEUs.

This 3 part workshop series will explore the implications of racism, anti-LGBTQ+ practices and white supremacy within the social work profession. Session 1 on March 8 will examine the historical and contemporary impact of racism and introduce strategies for dismantling systemic racism. Session 2 on March 15 will focus on challenges experienced by 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities offer tools to create inclusive and affirming environments. Session 3 on March 22 will explore white supremacy within the social work profession, opportunities for critical reflection and how to integrate trauma informed, anti-oppressive strategies into practice begin the process of unlearning to relearning in order to decolonize your work!.

Learning objectives:

  • Explore the ways White Supremacy manifests in the social work profession
  • Apply the Minority Stress Model to explore the impact of structural racism, systemic oppression and microaggressions on individuals and community well-being
  • Evaluate strategies to mitigate bias and enhance cultural competence and practices of cultural humility when working with 2SLGBTQIA+ clients, clients of color and clients from various oppressed identities
  • Operationalize the implementation of anti-oppressive practices to create a model of service provision that is trauma informed, culturally responsive and equity focused

About the Presenter

Crystal is an educator, an advocate, a survivor, and a self-proclaimed thriver! For the past 25 years she has been driven by her personal experiences of trauma to elevate and amplify the voices of individuals and communities, to promote healing and opportunities to move from surviving to thriving. Crystal has worked alongside professionals to create trauma informed, culturally inclusive and person-centered spaces. Her work experiences include advocacy within the child welfare system, oversight of child and youth programs, crisis hotline response, delivery of community based mental health services and implementing trauma informed strategies and programs for school districts. Throughout these experiences she has had the opportunity to gain essential knowledge and skills related to individual, community and collective trauma. She has been called upon to provide training, coaching and consultation across the nation in the subject areas of Human Trafficking, Suicide Prevention, Motivational Interviewing, Community and Collective Care, Child Trauma & Maltreatment and Racial Trauma. Crystal serves as an adjunct at Florida State University and Southwestern College where she teaches courses on Trauma Informed Social Work and Multicultural Counseling, respectively. She is a fierce advocate for social justice and leads courageously to dismantle oppressive systems and create equitable and just services, policies, and programs.


CEU Provider Statement: Course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, provided by NASW-CA.

NASW-CA Refund Policy: To receive a refund, requests must be emailed to naswca@socialworkers.org at least one (1) week prior to the event date. No refunds granted after the event, no exceptions. This policy also applies to group registrants. The refund for group registrations will go directly to the original payer of the registration fee. Refunds may take up to 10 days to process. If attendees pay with a credit card, the refund will be made to the same card. If attendees pay with a check, the refund will be made by check to the person or organization that originally paid for the registration.
