This is my first opportunity to say Happy Thanksgiving as your chapter president and board chair. While some of our members have had their faith tested as they have faced challenges including fires, unhealthy air, school closure and other activities that might question the desire to give thanks.
There is a saying that; “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I know that as social workers and leaders in this wonderful organization (NASW) we can not only lay claim to the saying, but we can take to heart the saying of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The ultimate measure of a man (and woman) is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. Amidst the challenges, we have also had some successes. The recent election results gave comfort to the candidates we supported and we are especially gratified with the win of fellow social worker Tony Thurmond who was successful even though he was greatly outspent by his opponent.
So, Happy Thanksgiving and much rest, relaxation and family time. We look forward to seeing you when we meet in January. Special thanks to the work and efforts of Janlee Wong, Rebecca Gonzales, Jolene Hui, and Tracy Harrison (who has been showing leadership related to the camp fire).
Regards and much peace.
