Supplemental Law and Ethics Examination Analysis

On January 1, 2017, the Board of Behavioral Sciences (Board) and Office of Professional Examination Services (OPES), began supplemental examination analysis for the following examinations:

LCSW Law & Ethics (LCLE)
LMFT Law & Ethics (LMLE)

Applicants may request eligibility for the above examinations, by submitting the following with payment:

Registrant Request for INITIAL Law and Ethics Exam (First-time Applicants ONLY): http://www.bbs.ca.gov/app-reg/initial_lawethics_app.shtml
Request for Re-Examination (Re-takes ONLY): http://www.bbs.ca.gov/pdf/forms/re-exam_app_37a-298.pdf

To ensure validity, a statistical analysis of a certain number of completed examinations is required before examination results can be released. Once the minimum number of completed examinations is met and the analysis concludes, examination results will be mailed to affected applicants, from the Board’s examination vendor, Psychological Services, Inc. (PSI). The Board estimates a delay of 8 weeks—from the beginning of this analysis period—before official results are mailed to affected applicants.

While the need for supplemental analysis comes somewhat unexpectedly for both the Board and its stakeholders, the Board and OPES recognized emergent needs to conduct additional examination analysis. Both the Board and OPES must ensure a legally defensible examination and passing score for potential licensees, to uphold the legally mandated duty to protect California’s consumers. The Board sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Other information regarding examination updates is available on the Board’s website, at http://www.bbs.ca.gov/exams/exam_news.shtml
