Santa Clarita Unit: Motivational Interviewing (1 CEU) on October 11

The Santa Clarita Unit of NASW-CA is excited to provide a free virtual CEU presentation entitled “Motivational Interviewing” on Wednesday, October 11 with our community partner, William S. Hart Union High School District Therapeutic Counseling Department. Participants will learn what motivational interviewing is, the role of ambivalence, the stages of change, the process of communication styles and resultant feelings, the purpose of motivational interviewing, the evoking style, how to move closed questions to open questions, affirmations, the benefits to using reflections, and how to utilize motivational interviewing in a school setting. This free event is reserved for 50 registrants.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn the stages of change
  • Understand the process of moving closed questions to open questions
  • How to apply motivational interviewing to the school setting

About the Speaker:
Danielle Kallin, LMFT, is a school-based therapist in the Hart District Therapeutic Counseling Department. She has many years of experience working with children, teens, and college age youth adults with various behavioral and development challenges and various disabilities. She collaborates regularly with multi-disciplinary professionals, parents, and students. She provides clinical consultation and coordination, case management and advocacy.

CEU Provider Statement: Course meets the qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, provided by NASW-CA.

NASW-CA Refund Policy: To receive a refund, requests must be emailed to naswca@socialworkers.org at least one (1) week prior to the event date. No refunds granted after the event, no exceptions. This policy also applies to group registrants. The refund for group registrations will go directly to the original payer of the registration fee. Refunds may take up to 10 days to process. If attendees pay with a credit card, the refund will be made to the same card. If attendees pay with a check, the refund will be made by check to the person or organization that originally paid for the registration.
