San Luis Obispo Unit Report

By L. Jeannette Davis

The San Luis Obispo Unit will not be meeting in July and August. We certainly hope that all of us will have a wonderful summer with family, friends and enough vacation time so that, when the SLO unit meetings commence in the fall, we will be refreshed and ready to attend our interesting presentations.

The fall schedule of the San Luis Obispo unit begins on Thursday, September 25th. Attorney Dan W. Scott will present a 2 CEU program on “Cooperative Divorce, Mediation and Other Alternatives to Litigation.” This presentation is intended to help therapeutic practitioners help their clients reach more satisfying outcomes with respect to issues arising from marital separation and divorce. Divorcing couples can avoid financially ruinous and excruciatingly painful legal strife by exploring the various alternatives to contested divorce litigation, including Family Court Services, private judging, collaborative lawyering, divorce mediation and pro per options. The SLO unit will meet from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. We begin with social networking, refreshments and a brief business meeting. The CEU program begins at 6:00 pm. Please contact LyLan Lofgren at lylanmvolfgren@gmail.com for the address and directions.

On Thursday, October 23Rd, Rob Wolff, LCSW, will present on a mindfulness program that he helped to create at Atascadero State Hospital. One or 1.5 CEUs will be offered. Look for further information regarding this program in the September issue of California News. The SLO unit will meet at Atascadero State Hospital from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Our unit holiday party is scheduled for Thursday, December 4th. The unit does not meet in November. Come join us and become an active participant in our unit, our California chapter, and our National Association of Social Workers.
