San Luis Obispo Report
By L. Jeannette Davis, DSW
The San Luis Obispo unit began its fall schedule on Thursday, September 26th, with Ly-Lan Lofgren, LCSW, giving a 1.0 CEU presentation on “Mindfulness Interventions for Clients and Clinician Self-Care.” Lofgren stepped in when Molly Kearns had to cancel due to a family crisis. We had a great turnout! The 1.5 CEU presentation by Kearns, MSW, LCSW (Oregon), on “Psychiatric Recovery Team Building: Creating a Safe Space for Recovery” is now planned for 2014.
Our next SLO unit meeting was Thursday, October 24th. Annett Sheely, MA, gave a 1.0 CEU on “Identifying and Working with Gifted Kids.” Those who attended learned common dual-diagnoses and misdiagnoses of gifted children, based on a handful of specific physical, social, and emotional issues seen in people with high levels of intelligence, as well as how to identify these clients without an I.Q. test.
Our unit will celebrate the holidays with an annual holiday party on Thursday, December 5th, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This year we will honor SLO Womenade, a local 501(c)(3) group that gives 100 percent of its donations to individuals in need locally.
