NASW-CA’s Social Work Conference: Track Highlight, Micro/Mezzo in Clinical Social Work

October 14 | Challenging Anti-Blackness in the Social Work Profession: Reviving Social Work’s Invisible Past

Daniel Mango, MSW, ACSW, EdD(c)

Daniel Mango, MSW, ACSW, EdD(c) will highlight how clinicians can decenter the narrative of white supremacy in social work. He will share essential micro-, mezzo-, and macro- level skills & interventions for empowering and engaging Black people as well as communities of color in the preparation of activating a critical consciousness. 

Daniel is currently the Director of Black Mental Health at the International Mental Health Association (IMHA). He regularly facilitates groups that focus on healing, growth, and radical imagining in Black communities.

October 21 | Latinas Supporting Latinas in Mental Health

No culture is a monolith. Deborah Villanueva, DSW, MSW, LCSW will spotlight the importance of understanding the differences and nuances of cultural-focused care. She will address how Latina/e, Hispanic clinicians can support Latina/e, Hispanic women in their community.

Deborah Villanueva is the founder and chief executive officer of Cafecito Y Platicas Con La Doctora, an organization that focuses on exemplifying the power of Hispanic, Latinas, and Latinx women in representing their communities, families, higher education, and their place within the working force.

October 14 | Inclusive Practices for Asian and Asian American Individuals and Communities

Participants will learn how to provide culturally inclusive care to Asian and Asian American individuals and communities. Strategies include rapport building, assessment, and treatment planning.

October 14 | Gender Dysphoria and Mental Health Considerations in Transgender and Gender Diverse People

This session will prepare clinicians how to support transgender and gender diverse clients in preparation for medical and surgical gender affirming interventions, as well as the latest research demonstrating the importance of this medically necessary care.
