NASW-CA Statement on Louisiana State Rep. Eddie Connick’s Comments Denigrating Social Work Profession

NASW-CA demands an apology from Eddie Connick, political candidate for the 82nd District seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives, who just made a disgusting attack on our great profession of social work. Those that want to lead should work diligently to be recognized for their integrity and merit of their work, and instead Mr. Connick chooses to intentionally attempt to denigrate an ENTIRE PROFESSION for the sake of trying to win an election. Mr. Connick, your words are malicious and deeply harmful to thousands of essential workers who literally risk their lives to bring healthcare, safety, and wellness to all of our communities across the nation. Social workers are the ones that embrace you when you learn your loved one is ill in the hospital, social workers are the ones who help our children socially and emotionally thrive in schools, social workers are the ones who fight so that individuals can have equal access to homes, food, and security. The social work profession represents the love, healing, and justice we need in this world. We demand you retract your statements and/or issue an apology. NASW-CA stands with NASW-LA.
