Nancy Humphreys and David Kessler set to Keynote NASW-CA Annual Conference in Burbank

The newly revamped conference schedule was designed to offer an affordable and diverse range of continuing education, professional development and networking opportunities for all!

 
CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

Opening Keynote
Nancy A. Humphreys, DSW, ACSW
One of the founding chapter leaders, Humphreys will present the early history of the current California chapter including how, when and why the previous local chapters came together to form the largest chapter in the United States. The implications of those early decisions will be considered in light of the changes over the forty years in the social work profession and larger social, economic and political context since 1974.

Morning Plenary
David Kessler
As one of the world’s foremost experts on healing and loss, Kessler’s experience with thousands of people on the edge of life and death has taught him the secrets to living a happy and fulfilled life. He is the author of five bestselling books, including the newly released You Can Heal Your Heart: Finding Peace After Breakup, Divorce or Death with Louise Hay.

Celebrate the Profession
The Social Work Awards Ceremony will follow the morning plenary and will honor outstanding individuals for NASW-CA Social Worker of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and Public Citizen of the Year.

Workshop Sessions and Licensure Classes
The conference includes more than 15 workshop topics offered in three time slots throughout the day. Some hot topics include Understanding the Needs of Unaccompanied Child Immigrants from Central America, Affordable Care Act and Social Work Skills Used in Assisting Afghanistan and Iraq Combat Veterans, DSM-5, Law & Ethics and much more!

Licensure classes are also available, including Human Sexuality, Clinical Supervision, Spousal/Partner Abuse, and Child Abuse (some classes carry over to Saturday).

Networking Lunch
Friday’s networking lunch offers an opportunity to relax with colleagues, meet new friends and congratulate the social work award recipients!

Exhibits Reception Prizes and More
Visit more than 40 recruiters and vendors in the exhibit hall on Friday. Planned activities include continental breakfast, refreshment breaks, the CalPACE Silent Auction and an evening closing reception with door prizes!

Learning and networking opportunities extend into the evening hours with Council meetings of the American Red Cross and Social Action Social Justice.

Registration discounts and volunteers needed
Registration discounts are offered to NASW members, social work students and retired social workers and early registrants. Discounts are also available to volunteers who serve as classroom monitors.
