BBS Requirements to Treat Couples and Families

Effective January 1, 2017, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, prior to commencement of couple or family treatment, shall obtain written confirmation from the Board of Behavioral Sciences (Board) that he or she meets State requirements to treat couples and families, and shall provide a copy of this written confirmation to clients.
Additionally, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, prior to commencement of supervision, shall provide a copy of this written confirmation to any supervisees who are:

• Marriage and Family Therapist Interns or Trainees; or
• Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors or Professional Clinical Counselor Interns gaining supervised experience to comply with the requirements to treat couples or families.
