“Walking Through The Lived Experiences Of African-Americans” – CSU Stanislaus Social Work Department Hosting Event Honoring Black History Month

The Social Work Department at CSU Stanislaus will be hosting this event to illuminate how systematic barriers within society have disproportionately affect African-Americans. Systematic barriers that include the criminal justice system, police brutality and the lack of access to mental health services. In order to heighten understanding, there will be various visual representations surrounding these issues, followed by a documentary detailing the Black Lives Matter Movement.

This project will specifically focus on raising consciousness and building awareness surrounding the effects of the criminal justice system, police brutality and the shortage of mental health services has on African-Americans. The expected outcome is to increase participants awareness and enlighten the racial biases surrounding the African-American population.

This event will take place on February 24th, 2020 from 11:30am-3:30pm.
The screening of Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement will be held at 6pm.
