Have you ever considered submitting your article for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, but thought you could not because you were not a faculty member or a researcher? Or maybe you did not know how to even begin? The presentation on the Basics of How to Submit for Publication to a Peer-Reviewed Journal will give you some insight to the process. It will be presented by Loc H. Nguyen, Dr.P.H., M.S.W., a current member of the eight-person editorial board of our flagship NASW journal, Social Work. The presentation is for NASW members only, and will be hosted by NASW – California on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The registration deadline is September 17 at 4:00 pm.

  • Get insight into why you would want to publish in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Examine how you would get to know about a journal you want to publish in using the NASW journal Social Work as an example
  • Get a better understanding of the basics of actually submitting an article
  • Hear about some frequently asked questions

About the Presenter
Loc H. Nguyen, Dr.P.H., M.S.W., has spent over 35 years working with vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, refugees, and those affected by disasters. He is currently an adjunct associate professor of social work at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work and teaches part-time in the doctor of social work (D.S.W.) program. He has authored and co-authored a number of papers in peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Psychiatry, the American Journal of Public Health, Child Abuse & Neglect, Children and Youth Services Review, and the NASW flagship journal Social Work. He has been a consulting editor (reviewer) with the NASW journal Social Work since 2011 and was appointed last year to the eight-person Editorial Board (https://academic.oup.com/sw/pages/editorial_board). He is currently the child welfare policy consultant for the County Welfare Directors Association of CA (CWDA), specializing in Continuum of Care (CCR) and Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) issues. Prior to this, he was as the child welfare director for San Mateo County (where San Francisco Airport is) for more than five years. Dr. Nguyen has a bachelor’s of science degree in psychobiology, master’s degrees in social work and public health, as well as a doctorate in public health from UCLA.
