Practice Alert: Opportunity to Participate in the Development of ICD-11

NASW encourages its members to provide their professional expertise during the  development of the International Classification of Diseases, Eleventh Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-11-CM).  The World Health Organization’s Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse has formed a global network of mental health professionals to develop the next version of the Classification of Mental and Behavioral Disorders of the ICD-11.

Because the ICD is a major diagnostic manual for clinical social workers who diagnose mental illness, it is germane for their involvement to ensure that the ICD-11 is clinically useful and simple to use by clinical social workers.  The ICD-11 is scheduled for publication in 2017.
