New Practice Perspective on HBAI Codes

A new practice perspective was recently posted on NASW’s website:

New Health Behavior Assessment and Intervention CPT Codes

Health Behavior Assessment and Intervention (HBAI) CPT Codes identify and address the psychological, psychosocial, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and interpersonal factors important to the assessment, treatment, and management of physical health problems.  Some health insurers reimburse clinical social workers for HBAI services whereas others do not.   NASW is working to advance federal legislation, Improving Access to Mental Health Act, to enable clinical social workers to bill Medicare for HBAI services.

Some health insurers reimburse CSWs for HBAI services whereas others do not. NASW is working to advance legislation in Congress, Improving Access to Mental Health Act, to enable CSWs to bill Medicare for HBAI.

HBAI services identify and address the psychological, psychosocial, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and interpersonal factors important to the assessment, treatment, and management of physical health problems.
