NASW-CA Statement on Newsom’s Proposed Budget

Dear California Social Workers and Allies,

Please find NASW-CA’s full statement on Governor Newsom’s proposed budget here. You should be pleased to see he specifically mentioned social workers in numerous initiatives for workforce investments. NASW-CA continues to be your tireless advocate to ensure our profession is recognized and lifted up for your invaluable contributions to justice and equity throughout communities across California. Your voice drives our work.

At NASW-CA we are also working on our own workforce investment bill and budget proposal. Our proposal will center on creating more slots for students in MSW programs at the University of California and the California State University systems. This strategy intends to engage social work professionals in its development, design, and implementation. Its hopeful outcome is that our field will grow in capacity, impact, and diversification to continue to work towards reflecting those we serve. The proposal will include funding for student stipends for MSW students from underrepresented communities and supports for organizations offering field internships.
