NASW-CA Annual Conference in South San Francisco on October 9-10, 2015

The National Association of Social Workers, California will hold it’s annual conference on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the South San Francisco Conference Center. The conference schedule offers a diverse range of continuing education, professional development, and networking opportunities.

Jeffrey L. Edleson, PhD will present the Opening Keynote, “Collaborating for Change,” on Friday at 8:30am. Edleson is a dean and professor at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Social Welfare. He was a professor at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work for 29 years before joining Berkeley in 2012 and is the founding director of the Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse.

Dr. Edleson will present on developing, “engaged research,” successful strategies for partnerships in research, and how practice and academic partnerships improve research. He will be using lessons learned from his three decades of practitioner-research partnerships and the domestic violence arena.

After the keynote, at the Social Work Awards Ceremony we will honor the 2015 Social Worker of the Year, Public Citizen of the Year and two Lifetime Achievement Award winners.

Along with the keynote and social work awards program, the conference will feature professional development, pre-licensure courses, continuing education workshops, a networking lunch on the first day, council meetings, and an exhibit hall that features a variety of exhibitors, reception, prizes, and a silent auction.

The classes offered are both continuing education for LCSW, LMFT, LPCC and LEP, pre-licensure requirements for ASW, IMF, LPCC, and professional development for all social workers. Some of the workshop topics include self-care for helping professionals, PQRS and the LCSW, political social work, California’s movement toward mental health and wellness, ethical considerations while working with unaccompanied minors from Central America, ethics and risk management, neuroscience of addictions, mindful-based practice with children and youth exposed to trauma, and DSM-5 transitions.

Registration discounts are offered to NASW members, social work students, retired social workers, and early registrants. Discounts are also available to volunteers who serve as classroom monitors.

 Registration deadline is September 18.
