Meet NASW-CA Intern Erica McCray

My name is Erica McCray and I am a senior social work student at Pacific Union College and an enthusiastic intern with NASW-CA for the 2013-2014 academic year.  I have enjoyed working with families directly; however, my long term interests are in the advocacy, facilitation, creation and implementation of social policies that are effective in empowering the underserved communities in California.

I have always carried a passion for helping others. However, it wasn’t until after a family trauma where I received the support of Napa Valley College counselors and staff that I realized my desire to serve others and my communication skills could be used in the social work field. Education has provided me with the language and confidence to pursue my goals, and interning with NASW-CA will provide me with the skill and experience necessary to proactively contribute to the community in a positive and effective way.
