Michael Dennis Saleebey
1936-2014
Dr. Saleebey received his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1958), his MSW from the University of California at Los Angeles (1960) and his Doctor of Social Work from the University of California at Berkley (1972). Dr. Saleebey was a professor at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas from 1987 until his retirement in 2006.
Dr. Saleebey focused on community organizing and his belief in the inherent resilience and capacity of individuals. His works included oppression in female populations, the change ability of adolescents, and empowerment. Dr. Saleebey is known as the creator of the strengths perspective.
