Government Accountability Office: It’s too soon for permanent telehealth expansion

The Government Accountability Office urged Congress to wait until the end of the pandemic before making decisions about a permanent expansion of telehealth coverage in Medicare and Medicaid, saying long-term quality and spending data is still needed. “Continuing these flexibilities after the public health emergency declarations end could increase certain risks to the Medicare and Medicaid programs,” a GAO official said in testimony to Congress. Full Story: Becker’s Hospital Review (5/20)
