We are happy to announce that Governor Newsom signed AB 1758 (Aguiar-Curry), a bill to allow remote supervision in all settings, which includes professional corporations and private practices.
NASW-CA worked diligently alongside the Board of Behavioral Sciences and the other professional associations to advocate for sustaining this flexibility. This bill is an “urgency” measure which means it goes into effect immediately. During the pandemic, the Governor signed a series of waivers to allow for remote supervision in all settings. The current waiver is set to expire on August 31, 2022, which made the quick signing of this bill necessary. Each time a waiver was set to expire, our chapter was swift to advocate with the Governor’s office for extensions.
The conditions of the worldwide pandemic further highlighted the need for our profession to maintain its capacity to be nimble and accessible to those we serve, and these needs have and will always continue to inform the priorities in our advocacy agendas.
