We are very happy to announce that due to advocacy by NASW in coordination with the other licenses, the Board of Behavioral Sciences – Waives in-person supervision for non-exempt Associate Marriage and Family Therapists, Associate Clinical Social Workers, and Associate Professional Clinical Counselors and allows telehealth supervision and treatment to be used by graduate students for clinical hours.
Presently, Business and Professions Code sections 4980.43.2, subdivision (d), 4996.23.1, subdivision (f), and 4999.46.2, subdivision (d) permit Associate Marriage and Family Therapists, Associate Clinical Social Workers, and Associate Professional Clinical Counselors to be supervised by two-way, real-time videoconferencing when they are working in a governmental entity, school, college, university, or an institution that is nonprofit and charitable. Associates working in other settings, however, must receive “face-to-face” supervision.
Pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order, the Director waives the work setting limitation in Business and Professions Code sections 4980.43.2, subdivision (d), 4996.23.1, subdivision (f), and 4999.46.2, subdivision (d), so that all associates may be supervised via two-way, real-time videoconferencing, irrespective of their work setting.
