BBS Notification of Continuing Education Regulation Changes

As of July 1, 2016, there were changes to continuing education (CE) regulations that impact both CE providers and California licensees.

One of the changes is that, as of July 1, 2016, the BBS will no longer approve continuing education providers. Instead, the following California Board recognized “National CE Approval Programs” have been designated by law to approve continuing education for California LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs:

  1. National Association of Social Workers (NASW)**
  2. Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)
  3. National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC)
  4. National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)
  5. American Psychological Association (APA)

To access the full details for both CE providers and California licensees, visit http://www.bbs.ca.gov/licensees/ce_info.shtml.

Notation: ** The NASW-CA State Chapter is NOT one of the BBS-recognized approval programs, only the NASW National CE Approval Program in DC.

For questions, contact the BBS staff using the website directory at http://www.bbs.ca.gov/staff_directory.shtml.
